Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites are gaining recognition as a transformative force in the telecommunications industry due to their capacity to deliver affordable, low-latency, and high-bandwidth connectivity for IoT devices. Moreover, LEO satellites have the potential to offer reliable and high-speed connectivity for 5G cellular networks, overcoming the obstacles faced by conventional telecommunications infrastructure in challenging regions. This technology has the ability to revolutionize connectivity and communication, particularly in remote and underserved areas.

Conducting experiments

The stc group, a driving force behind digital transformation in the region, is actively conducting a range of experiments to assess the feasibility of deploying LEO satellite services, ensuring uninterrupted coverage in remote and underserved areas. LEO satellite technology has brought about a revolution in telecommunications, particularly in regions that were previously lacking adequate communication networks. With significantly reduced latency compared to traditional satellite technology, LEO satellites facilitate faster and more efficient data transmission among connected devices. This advancement has significantly enhanced communication capabilities in remote areas, enabling faster and more reliable communication across a variety of devices.

stc successfully integrated the One-Web network with a Kymeta Hawk UT terminal, a compact and flat-panel satellite terminal. This advanced terminal has the capability to provide robust support for One-Web satellite connectivity as well as 5G cellular backhaul services, even in the most challenging and demanding conditions.

Remarkable download speeds

Upon the successful implementation of this technology, the seamless transmission and reception of data over a 5G cellular network will be verified. Notably, the recorded average latency during operations was an impressive 26 milliseconds, enabling remarkable download speeds of 80.6 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 10.6 Mbps. These results demonstrate the efficiency and high-performance capabilities of the implemented system.

Advancing connectivity solutions

Furthermore, this achievement highlights the unwavering commitment of the stc group to deliver state-of-the-art satellite communication solutions. By showcasing its technical expertise, stc is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for LEO satellite services, particularly after the successful experiment conducted at the Aramco offshore drilling rig. This notable accomplishment reflects a significant stride in advancing connectivity solutions in remote and demanding environments. The stc group remains actively dedicated to enhancing its services and offering clients the latest and most innovative connectivity solutions available.
