The Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) at the Saudi Tourism Authority’s pavilion during the Monaco Yacht Show. This collaboration aims to enhance the coastal tourism sector, foster partnerships with prominent international organizations, and attract investment to the Red Sea Region.

The signing was led by SRSA’s Chief Executive, Mohammed Al Nasser, and ICOMIA’s Chief Executive, Joe Lynch. According to a statement, this agreement is a reflection of the SRSA’s commitment to leveraging global best practices in coastal tourism, thereby advancing maritime and marine tourism through collaboration and knowledge exchange with esteemed regional and international entities.

Areas of cooperation

The MoU outlines a framework for cooperation in various areas, such as planning and implementing new initiatives to develop the Red Sea’s coastal tourism sector. It emphasizes ongoing collaboration with international organizations and regulatory bodies to harness their expertise.

Focus on investment and safety

Additionally, the agreement focuses on attracting investors to the Red Sea, enhancing operational safety, and sharing knowledge to adopt best practices in the maritime industry. It also includes the exchange of insights on coastal tourism regulations, environmental standards, safety protocols, and sustainable practices.

The MoU further seeks to evaluate the economic impact of coastal tourism, monitor key performance indicators, ensure compliance with new international standards, and promote joint research and initiatives.

Strategic partnerships and Vision 2030

Moreover, this agreement aligns with the SRSA’s strategy to expand its strategic partnerships with global organizations and relevant authorities, facilitating the exchange of experiences and the review of best practices to enhance, regulate, and sustain navigational and marine tourism activities in the Red Sea, in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030.
