Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has released its performance report for August, detailing the efficiency of both domestic and international airports across the Kingdom. The evaluation of airports is based on 11 operational performance standards that support strategic goals aimed at enhancing services and providing a smooth travel experience, SPA reported.

Top performing airports

The report highlights King Khalid International Airport, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, Abha International Airport, Al-Ahsa International Airport, and Gurayat Airport as top performers. GACA categorizes airports for performance assessment according to their annual passenger volumes, ensuring a clear and transparent evaluation process.

Airports with high passenger volumes

In the segment of airports welcoming over 15 million passengers yearly, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh took the lead with an impressive 82 percent compliance rate, closely followed by King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, which also achieved 82 percent.

International airport rankings

For international airports serving between 5 to 15 million passengers annually, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport achieved a tie for first place with a compliance rate of 91 percent, while King Fahad International Airport trailed with an 82 percent compliance rate.

Performance in mid-volume airports

In the category of airports handling 2 to 5 million passengers each year, both Abha International Airport and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport in Jizan recorded a perfect compliance rate of 100 percent. However, Abha International Airport excelled by exceeding higher benchmarks in the evaluation criteria.

Success in smaller airports

Al-Ahsa International Airport led the category for airports with fewer than 2 million annual passengers, also achieving a 100 percent compliance rate and surpassing its rivals in average waiting times for both departing and arriving flights.

Domestic airport leaders

Moreover, Gurayat Airport claimed the top spot in the domestic airport category, with a 100 percent compliance rate, outperforming all other airports in terms of average waiting times for flights.

Focus on passenger experience

GACA’s performance evaluation focuses on crucial passenger touchpoints, including check-in, security, passport control, customs, baggage claim, and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM). These metrics are designed to ensure a seamless and efficient travel experience for all passengers, adhering to international best practices.
