Through Vision 2030 and the Saudi national strategy, the Kingdom aims to strengthen its global logistics hub status. 

The logistics sector in Saudi Arabia, led by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, is witnessing a remarkable transformation aimed at reinforcing the Kingdom’s essential role in global trade. This initiative leverages advanced technologies to promote sustainability while integrating cutting-edge infrastructure and transportation solutions.

Strategic positioning in global trade

In a recent statement, Assistant Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Ahmed AlHassan emphasized Saudi Arabia’s strategic position as a trade corridor linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. Through Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, the Kingdom seeks to enhance its position as a global logistics hub, according to SPA.

Global Logistics Forum 2024

The upcoming Global Logistics Forum (GLF), organized by the ministry in Riyadh from October 12 to 14, 2024, will be held under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The event is expected to draw over 100 speakers and participants, including industry leaders and government officials. This forum highlights the Kingdom’s strategic initiatives to develop and enhance logistics centers that improve connectivity both domestically and internationally. As a result of these efforts, Saudi Arabia has risen 17 spots in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index.

Advancements in port operations

Additionally, the Kingdom’s ports have made notable advancements, achieving, in August 2024, 15th place globally in annual container handling. Three Saudi ports have been recognized in the Lloyd’s List One Hundred Ports 2024, reflecting the country’s expanding impact on logistics and its support for economic development.

Thriving civil aviation sector

The civil aviation sector is also thriving, as demonstrated by the Saudia Group’s record order of 105 Airbus aircraft and increasing investment opportunities at airports. These initiatives are setting new benchmarks for global connectivity and infrastructure.

Surge in investment opportunities

Investment in the logistics sector is booming, with a remarkable 76 percent surge in new business registrations in the second quarter of 2024, positioning logistics as the fastest-growing sector in the Kingdom.

This momentum signifies a new era of leadership and innovation, in line with national objectives to transform global trade and logistics under the ministry’s sustainable and technologically advanced guidance.

Moreover, this year’s Global Logistics Forum is anticipated to attract over 10,000 participants from prominent global organizations. They will also tackle urgent logistics challenges, engaging in discussions on sustainability, supply chain resilience, workforce development, and technology integration. Furthermore, the agenda will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and bilateral meetings, all aimed at fostering innovative and sustainable visions for the future of the industry.
