flynas, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, has recently become an affiliate member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This milestone makes flynas the first Saudi airline in the Middle East to join the prestigious organization. By becoming a member, flynas strengthens its position as a leading low-cost carrier (LCC) that actively contributes to the promotion of sustainable global tourism. This move is in line with flynas’ sustainability strategy and aligns with the Kingdom’s vision and dedication to shaping the future of the global travel industry.

Affiliate members play a vital role within the UNWTO membership, uniting more than 500 companies, educational and research institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Their participation fosters meaningful dialogue, facilitates information sharing, and drives collective action, all with the aim of promoting sustainable global tourism. Moreover, these efforts focus on leveraging knowledge and innovation to encourage responsible and competitive tourism, in accordance with the principles and objectives outlined in the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and the United Nations’ guiding principles.
Additionally, by joining the UNWTO, flynas solidifies its standing as one of the world’s leading low-cost carriers (LCCs), ranking among the top five. This membership brings numerous benefits to the airline, including enhanced visibility, expanded networking opportunities, active participation in relevant events, access to valuable knowledge resources, and the ability to collaborate and receive support from prominent Tier 1 organizations in the tourism industry.
flynas’ inclusion in the UNWTO coincides with Saudi Arabia’s selection as the host for the 26th UNWTO General Assembly in 2025. In addition, this historic event marks the first time that the Kingdom will host the general assembly of a United Nations organization, highlighting its increasing significance in the global tourism landscape.
Significant stride
Furthermore, in August, flynas made a significant stride by becoming a member of the UN Global Compact. This milestone achievement positions flynas as the first airline in Saudi Arabia and the inaugural low-cost airline in the Middle East to join the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.
