Saudis, Greeks sign new transport deal

Saudi Arabia signed, on Thursday, a joint agreement with Greece to develop commercial maritime and maritime transport, a cornerstone in economic development, and to support trade and exchange of experiences in the domain.

The two countries seek, through the joint agreement, to increase the traffic of commercial ships, and transportation passengers and goods between both countries.

In addition to that, both Riyadh and Athens are looking at exchanging their expertise  and sharing technologies on all levels related to the maritime sector.

Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of Board of Directors of Public Transport Authority, signed on behalf of the Saudi government whilst the Greek side was represented by, Ioannis Plakiotakis, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Islands Policy.

“The agreement included a mechanism for the treatment of ships” when accessing each other’s ports, their stay and departure, as well as “maritime accidents in the territorial waters,” the Saudi Press Agency reported.
