Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Global (RSG), the company responsible for developing The Red Sea, a regenerative tourism destination, has announced exciting plans for 2024. These plans include the opening of new resorts, guest facilities, and unique experiences, solidifying RSG’s position as the first of the original giga-projects to open and further establishing its role as a significant contributor to the realization of Vision 2030.

The Red Sea began welcoming guests in 2023, with the successful launch of Six Senses Southern Dunes and St Regis The Red Sea Resort. The Red Sea International Airport now operates regular weekly flights, facilitated by Saudia, connecting Riyadh and Jeddah, with international flights scheduled to commence this year.

Looking ahead to 2024, there are several upcoming resorts to anticipate. Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, one of only six in the world, is already accepting reservations for stays starting from May 26th, 2024. Situated on the pristine Ummahat Islands, guests at Nujuma can indulge in diving and snorkeling adventures in one of the world’s most untouched and immaculate archipelagoes.

Additionally, Shebara, the first resort owned and operated by Red Sea Global at The Red Sea, will open its doors this year. Surrounded by crystal clear waters, Shebara Island features a breathtaking 30 to 40-meter reef drop-off near the beach, offering an ideal location for exploring ocean life. Each space at Shebara has been meticulously designed to harmonize with its environment, with stainless steel villas reflecting the ever-changing colors of the ocean and sky throughout the day.

The Desert Rock resort remains on schedule to welcome guests later this year. Nestled in a hidden valley, Desert Rock provides an exclusive and luxurious experience with only 60 rooms available. The architectural integration into the mountainside offers guests a choice of ground-level dwellings, crevice hotel suites midway up the ridge, or a select number of rooms built within the rock itself.

Land-based adventures, guided tours and culinary delights

To enhance the guest experience, RSG has introduced new subsidiary brands such as Akun, Galaxea, and WAMA, providing exceptional opportunities to explore the diverse landscapes of The Red Sea destination. Akun offers a range of land-based adventure activities suitable for guests of all abilities, including guided tours of historical sites and culinary adventures that showcase the vibrant flavors of Saudi Arabia. Outdoor enthusiasts can partake in mountain biking, fat tire and electric biking, hiking through nature trails, and desert safaris.

WAMA and Galaxea offer unforgettable experiences both above and below the water’s surface, including diving, snorkeling, kayaking, kite surfing, and sailing. The Red Sea is home to a rich marine ecosystem, boasting 175 species of corals, 195 species of fish, and protected species such as the hawksbill turtle and halavi guitarfish.

Connectivity at The Red Sea is top-notch, with guests enjoying world-leading mobile internet speeds through the 5G network, recognized by Ookla. Powered entirely by renewable energy and designed in harmony with nature, the network exemplifies Red Sea Global’s commitment to sustainability without compromising performance.

Furthermore, RSG has invested in providing an exceptional guest arrival experience, ensuring comfort and convenience at every step. Upon arrival at the Red Sea International Airport, guests are transferred to their resort using ultra-luxury electric vehicles. For those staying at the island resorts of The Red Sea, a luxurious SAF-powered seaplane transfer operated by RSG subsidiary Fly Red Sea is also available.

Sustainable development: Red Sea Global’s responsible approach

Red Sea Global takes its role as a responsible developer seriously and goes beyond mere sustainability by aiming to have a regenerative impact on the natural environment. The company has announced its “Coral Commitment” during COP28 in Dubai, pledging to protect and regenerate corals not only in the Red Sea but also in other regions. RSG has already installed over 760,000 photovoltaic panels, enabling phase one of The Red Sea to be powered solely by sunlight, making the destination fully off-grid.

Moreover, upon completion in 2030, The Red Sea destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms, over 1,000 residential properties spread across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also feature luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment venues, and leisure facilities, providing a comprehensive and extraordinary experience for visitors.
