Saudi Arabia’s government seeks to create 23,000 job opportunities in the promising transport and logistics sector in the kingdom as part of efforts to provide job opportunities for Saudi citizens.

H.E. Ahmed bin Sufyan Al-Hassan, assistant minister of transport and logistics services, confirmed that the program is supported by the state, enabling the sector to achieve the goals of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics and Saudi Vision 2030.

Saudization of jobs

Al-Hassan pointed out that there is an opportunity to localize jobs in the transport and logistics sector. These include 10,000 jobs in the heavy transport sector, 3,000 jobs in the passenger transport sector, and 10,000 jobs in the air navigation sector. The sector aims to localize 28 different professions.

Al-Hassan also highlighted a group of initiatives and projects that aim to develop human capabilities and enhance job opportunities for the young men and women of this country. This came during the main dialogue session of the third Qassim Youth Empowerment Forum “My Opportunity 3″. The forum is titled: “The authorities’ efforts to empower youth according to the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

Saudi Logistics Academy

One of the most prominent initiatives the ministry of transport and logistics launched to empower the sector and its workers is the Saudi Logistics Academy. Al-Hassan added that the academy helps prepare Saudi youth and support the logistics sector. Hence, the Kingdom seeks to become a global logistics center. Moreover, the academy recently graduated 450 trainees.

Al-Hassan also added that the Saudi Railway Technical Institute contributes significantly to supporting and empowering the transport, logistics, and railway sectors. It also qualifies national cadres and trains them in the fields of train driving, maintenance, signals and control. It then helps employ them in the railway transport sector.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia, home to a large migrant worker community, has launched a series of initiatives to employ its citizens in several fields. This includes education, communications, and real estate as part of a labor policy known as “Saudization.”
