Saudi Arabia and the Solomon Islands recently signed an agreement on the mutual exemption of short-stay visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, private and official passports. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Jeremiah Manele, signed the agreement during the official visit to Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, which also included Foreign Minister Peter Chanel Agovaka, the two officials reviewed relations between Saudi Arabia and the Solomon Islands. In addition, they highlighted ways to strengthen and develop ties in various fields, further intensifying joint coordination on many issues of interest to the two countries.
Also present at the meeting were the Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, the Saudi ambassador to the Commonwealth of Australia, and the non-resident ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Sultan bin Khuzaim.
In a previous meeting, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal F. Alibrahim held talks with Minister of National Planning and Development Coordination Rexon Ramofafia.
During the meeting, both ministers explored a range of mutual interests, including a potential air service agreement between the Solomon Islands and Saudi Arabia and cooperation in tourism and investment.

The two sides also discussed the development of a cooperation framework and increasing investments in infrastructure, capacity building, and technology transfer among other key sectors.
The Solomon Islands has recently expanded its efforts to increase cooperation with Gulf states, holding key discussions with the Kingdom and Qatar. Manele also inaugurated the country’s embassy in Abu Dhabi last week in a bid to bolster bilateral relations with the UAE.
