Mawani records milestone on Liner Shipping Connectivity Index
Mawani is continuously developing and modernizing the infrastructure

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has achieved achieved another milestone in UNCTAD’s Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) for Q4 by scoring 79.01 points. With this achievement, Mawani recorded its highest improvement in the index. It previously scored 77.66 during Q3. This achievement aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).

28 new shipping services

This achievement comes as a result of several factors, most notably:

  • Having established 28 new shipping services during 2023 with major international shipping lines
  • Significant progress in container handling, rising from the 24th position to the 16th position on the Lloyd’s List One Hundred Ports rankings
  • Advancing 17 places globally in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) to secure the 38th position out of 160 countries

Upgrading infrastructure

In addition, Mawani has consistently worked on raising the efficiency of operational services and launching initiatives aimed at automating operational processes in Saudi ports. Moreover, it started using modern operational equipment consistent with its approach to adopting smart technologies. Furthermore, Mawani has also been facilitating import and export procedures which will encourage national exports. This in turn has contributed to the growth of global maritime trade and has reduced operational costs in ports.

Increasing port connectivity globally

The Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) aims to enhance global port connectivity and increase the number of shipping lines. It achieves this by considering various sub-indicators such as the frequency of scheduled vessel visits per week. Moreover, it considers standardized ship capacity and availability of regular service routes provided by shipping lines for inbound and outbound transportation. These indicators evaluate the level of connectivity between ports across different countries and their associated shipping line networks.
