Healthspan science is a cutting-edge field dedicated to understanding and enhancing the longevity of human life. It aims to enhance it by ensuring good health and vitality, as opposed to simply extending lifespan.
This evolving discipline holds great promise for improving the quality of life for people of all ages. It is at the forefront of efforts to redefine our approach to aging and healthcare.
In a visionary step toward advancing the frontiers of health and aging research, the Saudi Hevolution Foundation is set to invest up to $1 billion annually in aging research and healthspan science.
Pioneering healthspan research
Established by royal decree in 2018, the Hevolution Foundation officially commenced its operations in 2021. Its primary mission is to support independent research and entrepreneurship in healthspan science. Thus, this field has the potential to revolutionize how we approach aging and its associated challenges.
In its latest move, the foundation selected 11 Saudi researchers for significant grants, marking a milestone in the health sector. Each researcher will receive a grant of SR500,000, solidifying the program’s influential initiatives in the field within Saudi Arabia. The researchers come from the kingdom’s most prestigious universities, research centers, and hospitals.
“As the Hevolution Foundation continues working tirelessly to catalyze the healthspan field, this strategic initiative serves as both a nurturing ground and a launchpad for Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning intellectual prowess in aging biology” Dr. Mehmood Khan, the foundation’s CEO, stated.
Additionally, the foundation committed over $200,000 in funding to support global research in the field of healthspan science.

Building a global network
In addition to its local support, the foundation has also expanded its reach by establishing an investment team in Boston, Massachusetts. This strengthens its global presence and collaboration with the life sciences community.
Furthermore, the foundation aims to create hubs in various locations, fostering a global talent ecosystem for geroscience research. This ambitious goal seeks to promote healthier and longer lives for people across the globe.
In an effort to build a global network, the foundation will be hosting the Global Healthspan Summit 2023 in Riyadh on November 29-30. The event will bring together more than 100 scientists, policymakers, business leaders, and innovators. This summit will serve as a center for insights, networking, and potential real-world solutions to empower lasting change.
“Each one of us holds a piece of the puzzle in creating a future where aging is not a limitation but a period of vitality and health” Princess Dr. Haya Khaled Al-Saud, the foundation’s VP for organizational strategy and development, stated.
