The Riyadh Region Municipality recently introduced a modern smart model to the Saudi capital’s flood network to ensure the integrity of flood channels and facilitate proactive action. Riyadh’s new model utilizes smart technologies to assess water levels in the flood lines, ease access to data on drainage channels, and identify errors and methods of resolution.

The model includes sensors that provide real-time data readings, ensuring the reliability of flood drainage channels. This contributes to maintenance planning and the development of drainage channels through data analysis. In addition, it offers continuous monitoring and early prediction of water flow rates in the channels.

Riyadh’s new flood network seeks to ensure the protection of lives and properties while saving time and effort. In addition, it aims to prolong the city’s infrastructure lifespan and promote sustainability.

The Riyadh municipality noted the employment of flood network sensors has proven effective in several countries including Japan, France and Australia. It added that these devices are easy to use and are compatible with Android systems.

The municipality also highlighted the versatility of these sensors, with some of the devices measuring depth, water pressure and quality. Meanwhile, others produce instant images and videos. Some of the sensors also operate on solar power, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.
