King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam achieved in May 2024 a new milestone by handling 292,612 TEUs, according to a press release from the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). This demonstrates the port’s operational excellence.

This achievement highlights Mawani’s commitment to improving the port’s infrastructure, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. Moreover, the goal is to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.

Exceptional operational, logistical capabilities

According to the release, the port’s exceptional operational and logistical capabilities are responsible for this performance. King Abdul Aziz Port has 43 fully serviced and equipped berths, with a capacity to handle up to 105 million tons of cargo and containers. Additionally, its specialized terminals, advanced facilities, and modern equipment enable it to efficiently handle various types of cargo.

Transforming into a smart port

This latest achievement is the result of Mawani’s efforts to transform King Abdul Aziz Port into a smart port operating with 5G technology, as part of the Smart Ports Initiative. Moreover, this initiative aims to automate port operations, enhancing efficiency and increasing container-handling capacity.

Breaking previous records

Furthermore, the press release noted that this record surpassed the previous high of 289,787 TEUs handled in March 2024, highlighting the port’s pivotal role in supporting commercial movement and contributing to the supply chains for imports and exports to and from the Kingdom.
